Cornelius, NC — April 26, 2024 — The Cornelius Youth Orchestras is thrilled to announce that percussionist Stephanie Wilson is joining its Artistic Faculty. Principal timpanist with the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra and percussionist with the Western Piedmont Symphony, Ms. Wilson is in high demand as a freelance musician, also performing frequently with the Charlotte Symphony, Opera Carolina, the Charlotte Master Chorale, Opera Wilmington, and many local ensembles.
“We are super excited to welcome Stephanie to our team,” said Executive Director, Eric Boruff. “On top of her impressive musical abilities, Stephanie brings a truly vibrant energy and passion to her craft that will connect in a special way to our young percussionists just beginning their musical journey.”
With strings, woodwinds, and brass programs already in its portfolio, the addition of Ms. Wilson paves the way for the growing Lake Norman nonprofit to begin the final phase of its educational programming buildout by focusing on much-needed percussion programs. The CYO seeks to offer an educational pathway for students with no experience to develop full proficiency on percussion instruments. The first percussion program the organization will field is the Percussion Challenge, a beginner-focused program providing instruction on the full range of percussion instruments, parallel to the organizations other no-experience-required programs, Brass Challenge, Woodwind Challenge, and Prelude Strings.
